About Smooth PET Strap

Smooth PET strap features a flat, untextured surface finish that is preferred for automatic strapping machine systems where consistent strap feeding and sealing are critical. The smooth surface allows the strap to feed cleanly through automatic machine tracks and produces reliable heat-seal bonds in fully automatic systems.

Applications & Use Cases

Applications

Smooth strap is the correct choice for automatic machine applications and is also preferred where the strap surface contacts sensitive load materials. On timber and finished goods, the smooth surface reduces the risk of surface marking that can occur with embossed strap under high tension.

Common Use Cases

  • Fully automatic in-line strapping machines
  • High-speed production line strapping
  • Robotic and automated packaging systems
  • High-throughput distribution centre operations
  • Timber and surface-sensitive materials (avoids surface marking)
  • Applications requiring clean strap appearance

Load Profile Considerations

Smooth strap is available in all standard widths and thicknesses, so load suitability is governed by the specification selected, not the finish. Choose the right width and thickness for your load; choose smooth finish for automatic machine compatibility or surface-sensitive materials.

Why Choose This Specification

Choose smooth when your machine is a fully automatic system, when machine manufacturer documentation specifies smooth-finish strap, or when surface contact with the load is a concern. For semi-automatic and manual applications, embossed is usually preferred unless the machine specifies otherwise.

Not sure if this PET strap suits your load type or application? Tell us what you are strapping, your load weight, and your operating environment — we will help match the right specification.

Machine Compatibility

Machine Compatibility

Compatibility is not optional.

Before ordering any PET strap, the strap specification must be confirmed against your machine's requirements. Width, thickness, finish, and sealing compatibility are baseline requirements — not secondary considerations. The sections below follow the real evaluation sequence used by operations and procurement teams assessing strap suitability.

Smooth finish is the standard requirement for fully automatic strapping systems. The flat surface feeds consistently through narrow machine tracks and supports reliable heat-seal bond formation. Some semi-automatic systems also accept smooth strap — confirm your machine specification to be certain.

Compatibility Checkpoints

Machine compatibility is not optional — work through these checkpoints before ordering any new strap specification.

Smooth finish is the standard requirement for fully automatic strapping systems. The flat surface feeds consistently through narrow machine tracks and supports reliable heat-seal bond formation. Some semi-automatic systems also accept smooth strap — confirm your machine specification to be certain.

The first step in selecting the right strap is confirming that the strap dimensions and surface finish are rated for use in your machine. Strapping machines have defined operating ranges for strap width, thickness, and finish — operating outside these ranges causes feed problems, seal failures, and machine damage.

Machine types this product may suit:

  • Fully automatic in-line strapping systems
  • High-speed automatic pallet strapping machines
  • Heat-seal strapping heads
  • Some semi-automatic systems (confirm spec)

This list is indicative only. Always confirm compatibility against your specific machine make, model, and rated operating specification. If you are unsure, contact PACKOR before ordering — we can help confirm suitability based on your machine details.

Custom strap widths available: 9mm to 32mm

If your machine requires a strap width outside the standard range, PACKOR can source or manufacture custom-width PET strap from 9mm to 32mm. Contact us to discuss your machine requirements.

Confirmation and Consultation — Before You Order

The final step is confirmation. Before placing a first order — or when switching suppliers or strap specifications — contact PACKOR to review your machine requirements and application.

If you know your machine make, model, sealing method, and current strap specification, we can help confirm a suitable option quickly. If you are unsure about any of these details, we can work through the evaluation with you.

Common Questions

Smooth PET Strap — Common Questions

Automatic strapping machines feed strap through a narrow track or chute at high speed. Smooth strap feeds more consistently than embossed because the flat surface reduces resistance in the feed path. It also produces more reliable heat-seal bonds in systems using heat as the joining method. Embossed strap can cause feeding issues and inconsistent sealing in automatic systems not designed for it.
Some semi-automatic machines accept smooth strap, but many are designed around embossed finish for the friction-weld sealing process. Check your machine documentation or contact PACKOR to confirm whether smooth or embossed is the correct specification for your equipment.
Smooth strap is less likely to mark sensitive surfaces than embossed strap under tension, as the flat surface distributes contact pressure more evenly. However, for very high-tension applications on finished surfaces, edge protectors or strap guards are still recommended regardless of finish.
